As diaspora chapters continue to grow in influence and participation, the APC France Chapter hosted a groundbreaking moment during its leadership transition ceremony, one that may soon reshape the internal workings of the party at large.
Hon. Dr. Tunde Doherty, Chairman of the APC United Kingdom Chapter, reaffirmed his exemplary leadership by warmly embracing and offering his full support to the newly elected executives of the APC France Chapter and other APC chapters. Hon. Dr. Tunde Doherty, who also suggested the integration of online voting mechanisms into the party’s internal democratic processes.
The suggestion called for a more inclusive, modern approach to party elections that would give APC members in the diaspora a functional voice, especially during congresses and primaries. His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, APC National Chairman, responded thoughtfully and affirmatively to a bold proposal.
In his response, Dr. Ganduje showed openness and foresight: “The world has changed, and so must we. I believe the proposal for online voting is not only logical but necessary. We are listening, and we will act accordingly. Let us begin the work to ensure that no voice, whether in Kano, Kaduna, London or Lyon, is left unheard.”
The atmosphere in the hall was electrified with optimism. Delegates and observers from various European cities whispered among themselves, exchanging nods and handshakes, sensing that they were witnessing the dawn of a new democratic possibility for APC globally.
Dr. Ganduje further used the moment to challenge Nigerians abroad to continue being model ambassadors for the country:
“In everything you do, remember — you represent Nigeria. Uphold her dignity. Honour her values. Obey the laws of your host nations, but never forget where your roots are.”
He reiterated that Nigeria’s image abroad is shaped by the conduct of her diaspora citizens. “Let the world know that Nigeria’s greatness is not only on paper, but in the way her sons and daughters behave, achieve, and lead wherever they find themselves.”
The call for digital transformation and dignified representation struck a chord with the audience, as many APC members living abroad have long desired both greater inclusion and structured recognition from the National body.
As the applause lingered and discussions continued long after the speech, one thing was clear: APC was entering a new era, and it would be digital, inclusive, and global in spirit.
