In a powerful demonstration of connectivity and commitment, Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) with other with other members around the glob that couldn`t be present at the venue, virtually joined the APC France Chapter’s leadership handover ceremony through an online platform provided by the host chapter, an innovation that blended tradition with technology.
Though physically distant, her presence was palpably felt. As the large LED screen flickered to life and her familiar voice echoed through the venue, the audience responded with delighted cheers and applause. Her words were clear, personal, and charged with inspiration.
“I want to thank APC France for ensuring that distance did not limit participation,” she began. “Today, we are witnessing something beautiful, a peaceful transition of leadership in the diaspora, backed by the National structure, and driven by unity and innovation.”
She singled out Hon. Hajiya Musa Baba Suzuki, the newly inaugurated Chairlady of APC France, praising her for breaking new ground as the first woman to hold the position. “Hajiya Suzuki, you are a beacon of what women can achieve in politics — in Nigeria and abroad. Your leadership will empower many others to step forward.”
Turning her attention to the APC National Chairman, Hon. Dr. Ganduje, she expressed deep admiration for his hands-on approach:
“Mr Chairman, you have gone beyond expectation. By coming to France in person, you have sent a strong message that diaspora chapters matter, that they are not side players, but frontliners in the APC movement.”
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa then pledged her commitment to collaborate closely with the new APC France leadership to further empower Nigerians abroad and promote developmental synergy between the diaspora and home.
“You are not forgotten, and you are not alone,” she said firmly. “NIDCOM will work hand-in-hand with this chapter to ensure your concerns, contributions, and voices are carried back home.”
Her closing remarks echoed long after her screen had faded: “This is the future. Female leadership, digital access, and unity in diversity. Let’s make it count.”
From Paris to Abuja and beyond, her speech added an enduring resonance to a ceremony already filled with historic moments. It reminded all present that Nigeria’s greatness rests not only within her borders, but wherever her people raise her flag in dignity and service.
